On the phone: Leva’s plan for a Sunday evening. The task Client deckStrategy case study is due Friday and needs about 4 hours. It carries a label that reads Start by Monday.
The deckcase study’s due Friday. You’ve known for weeks. You’ll start Thursday. You always do.
“I knew about it for two weeks and I still started the night before.”
On the phone, in dark mode: the same Sunday plan. Client deckStrategy case study, due Friday, about 4 hours, Start by Monday.
Estimated 4h (you said so) × 1.6× buffer = 6.4h. Start ~4 days before deadline.
A due date tells you when it’s too late. A start-by date tells you when there’s still time to do it well.
Start by Monday. Three extra days of room.
Each dot is one minute of work.
Example numbers. Your buffer comes from your own finished tasks, once you’ve finished three.
Example: a deckcase study due Friday, estimated at 4 hours. Left alone, the work would start Thursday night. The estimate alone points to a Tuesday start. Last time a 4 hour task took 6 hours 30. Leva learns a buffer of 1.6 times from your last three finished tasks, so this one needs 6.4 hours. Leva sets the start-by date to Monday, four days before the deadline. The card shows the reason: Estimated 4h (you said so) times 1.6 buffer is 6.4h. Start about 4 days before deadline.
Every morning: three things, in order, and the one to start today.
Today it’s the deckcase study. Colour sits on one thin line, so you see it without reading a date.
On the phone: Monday morning. Client deckStrategy case study now sits under Start today. The morning brief lists three priorities in order: Client deckStrategy case study, about 4 hours, start today. ProposalReading notes, about 1 hour. Board memoGroup report, about 2 hours.
A call runs over. The afternoon is gone.
The plan rebuilds around what’s left. No lecture.
On the phone: Wednesday afternoon. A message reads: Your schedule updated. Plan adjusted. ProposalReading notes is marked Behind, in amber.moves to Behind, in amber, and is then checked off. Client deckStrategy case study stays under Start today. Nothing is red.
On the week strip: the start-by marker sits on Monday. A dashed ring on Thursday reads: You’d have started here.
On the phone: Friday evening. Client deckStrategy case study and ProposalReading notes are done. Board memoGroup report is the one under Start today.
